Pat Cummins is likely to miss the Sri Lanka tour, cricketer expressed his desire to be with his family.
Australian captain Pat Cummins might be absent from the upcoming Sri Lanka Test series, lined up for January 29 and February 6. The captain’s wife, Becky is due to give birth to their second child later this month, and the star fast bowler expressed his wish to be with his family during the time. It is expected that, in Cummins’ absence, Steve Smith or Travis Head might lead the Aussies during the Sri Lanka Tour.
After Australia’s recent win over India, Cummins expressed his regret over his first child, Albie’s early days, he said, “I missed a big chunk [of son Albie’s early days] last time and I want to work out how we can spend a bit more time at home for that initial period this time. It’s pretty hard to plan exactly the day, but definitely (I might miss the Sri Lanka tour).”

Aussies’ six-wicket win against India at the SCG on Sunday secured their position in the WTC. It ensured Australia’s command of every bilateral trophy for which they compete, emphasizing Cummins’s leadership.
Both Travis Head and Steve Smith are under consideration to be elevated to the captaincy during Cummins’ absence, as both are vice-captains. However, Smith is expected to take the lead, as he has already filled in places four times in the past few years.
Although Cummins will be out of captaincy, this is only for a short run. He is still driven and does not feel that his work as a captain is completed.
Cummins said in an interview about his captaincy, “First of all, I absolutely love what I do. That’s the biggest driver in wanting to play Test cricket and work with this team and support staff,” He further said, “I absolutely love everything about it; it’s that much fun. If I can keep doing it for a while, even better.”
