After India, the Proteas have also announced their 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to kick start from 19 February 2025.
Runner Ups in the Mens T20 World Cup 2024 and finalist of the upcoming World Test Championship, South Africa, aka Proteas have announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to begin from 19 February 2025. The team is set to be led by Temba Bavuma – to build on their strong recent form.
With the announcement, the team is bolstered by the return of pace spearheads Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi. Marking his first appearance in the 50-over format since September 2023, Anrich Nortje is set to return to ODI cricket. Being sidelined for a stress fracture, the fast bowler was forced to miss the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and South Africa’s home summer. Alongside this, having been out of international cricket since October 2024 due to a groin injury, Lungi Ngidi is also set to return to action in the upcoming ICC CT 2025.
The South Africa selectors have shown their faith in the core group that propelled them to the semi-finals of the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup – retaining 10 of the 15 players for the Champions Trophy, with some fresh additions like fresh additions in Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder making their ODI debut.
