Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur to play for Mumbai in the Irani Cup under Ajinkya Rahane’s Captaincy

Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane will play for Mumbai in the Irani Cup, which begins on October 1 in Lucknow against the Rest of India (ROI) side.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will also ask the Indian cricket board to release Sarfaraz Khan, who is currently with the Indian team for the test series against Bangladesh

If Sarfaraz does not play the 2nd Test, then the selection committee plans to release Mumbai’s middle-order batsman on the third day of the match. The MCA selection committee will select its squad on Tuesday.

Shardul has been a key player in Mumbai’s last-year Ranji Trophy victory. Shardul, who scored his first first-class century in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy, has led Mumbai to their 42nd Ranji Trophy title.

The Rest of India’s squad will be selected by the senior national selection committee on Tuesday. It is expected that players who performed well in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy might be included in the team
