Rishabh Pant, aka the entertainer of the Indian Cricket Team, had a triumphant comeback to Test cricket against Bangladesh in the opening match of the series in Chennai. He amassed his sixth century in the format, showing no signs of cheekiness in batting or behind the stumps after a long gap.
However, it was not just his strokeplay that drew everyone’s attention; it was the incident in which the wicketkeeper batsman was seen setting the field for Bangladesh during Day 3 of the Chennai Test.
“Idhar ayega ek, bhai ek idhar, idhar do fielder hai” These are the words of Rishabh Pant while he was trying to help Bangladesh Captain in placing fielders.
After the match, Pant was asked about the incident, and he gave an astonishing explanation.
“Firstly, I keep talking to Ajay Bhai off the field. He says that ‘the quality of cricket should keep improving’. Wherever you are playing and whoever you are playing against. I saw that there was no fielder there (mid-wicket). I saw two fielders at the same area. So I told them to move one fielder to the midfield position.”
Because of the centuries of Shubman Gill and Pant in the second inning, India set Bangladesh the humongous target of 515. Although the visitors got off to a good start, they lacked the necessary endurance to finish the job. At Chepauk, Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 in their second innings, and India won the Chennai Test by 280 runs.
