New Zealand Eliminated India from Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 With Victory Over Pakistan

India’s 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign came to a painful end on Monday when New Zealand defeated Pakistan in the last Group A match in Dubai. India needed Pakistan to do them a favor by defeating the White Ferns so India could get the semi-final tickets, but Pakistan failed in doing so. New Zealand hammered Pakistan by 54 runs in the last game of Group A.

With this win, New Zealand crushed the hopes of India and qualified for the semi-final at the cost of India. Australia (eight points) qualified as Group A winners, while New Zealand (six points) advanced as group runners-up. India finished in third place with four points.

India’s WT20 World Cup 2024 campaign begins with a 58-run loss to New Zealand, followed by victories against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Women in Blue’s chances of advancing were bolstered by an 82-run win over Sri Lanka, due to the positive impact on the Net Run Rate (NRR).

A victory over Australia in their final group-stage encounter would have sealed India’s position for the final four. However, an undefeated valiant half-century from skipper Harmanpreet went in vain while chasing down 152, as the majority of India’s batters failed to deliver, costing India a match to qualify semi-finals.

The last time India’s women’s team failed to make a berth in the semifinals of the Women’s T20 World Cup, was in the 2016 edition at home.
