Najmul Hossain Shanto Steps Down As T20I Captain, Litton Das To Take Over?

Bangladesh Cricket Board official announced Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down as T20I captain after leading the Bangla Tigers in 24 T20I matches.

Bangladesh’s prodigious cricketer, Najmul Hossain Shanto has stepped down as the captain of Bangladesh’s T20I team. However, his fans will most likely see him continuing to lead in the ODI and the Test format. The 26-year-old cricketer had earlier expressed his desire to renounce captaincy in all formats but it seems the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque and Shanto talked of it.

On Thursday, January 2, a BCB official told Cricbuzz, “Shanto finally told us that he won’t lead in the T20Is and we accepted it but as we don’t have T20Is at the moment, we have time in hand and so we are not picking a new captain.” He also said, “If there is no injury issue, Najmul will remain the captain in Test and ODIs and we have discussed it”.

For the moment, Litton Das, the opening batsman, and wicket-keeper of the Bangladesh Cricket Team will be leading the team in the shortest format of cricket. Earlier, he led Bangladesh to a 3-0 series whitewash over West Indies in West Indies as captain, thus proving his prowess as a captain.

The southpaw has a competent record as the T20I captain of Bangladesh. Shanto has a winning percentage of 41.66% while a losing percentage of 54.16%.

It is speculated that Mehedy Hasan, who has previously served as a stand-in captain during the West Indies tour when the regular skipper was unavailable might lead the team.
