LSG has a huge setback just before the start of the IPL 2025, as their fast-bowling prodigy Mayank Yadav will miss the first half of the tournament due to a lumbar stress injury. According to the reports by ESPNcricinfo Mayank is in rehab and still recovering from injury in the Bengaluru facilities of BCCI (Centre for Excellence).
Mayank is recovering quickly, however, his return to the cricket field is not confirmed yet. But if he manages to meet all the fitness parameters, he could be a part of the attack of LSG’s bowling unit in the later half of the IPL.
Mayank’s absence is going to be a big disadvantage for LSG, which had retained him for INR 11 crore ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. It was a massive financial leap for Mayank, who had been signed for INR 20 lakh ahead of the 2024 season as an uncapped fast bowler.
Mayank’s participation in the IPL 2024 was limited to four matches due to a nagging side strain in his last two games. Mayank sustained a different injury during rehab, delaying his return, but he eventually participated in the Bangladesh T20Is.
However, he sustained another injury shortly after, forcing him to return to rehabilitation. While the BCCI has not officially released information about Mayank’s ailment, it is believed that he has a stress-related injury to his lower back on the left side.
Lucknow Super Giants will play their first match of the season against the Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Visakhapatnam, under new skipper Rishabh Pant.
