Joe Root scripted history in Lord’s Test by becoming the 1st English batter to achieve this feat…..

England’s former test captain and their premier test batsman, Joe Root, have been in exceptional form these days. The testimonial to this is the recently concluded Lord’s Test of England vs. Sri Lanka Test series 2024. In this test match, Root scored centuries in both innings (143 in 1st inning & 103 in 2nd inning).

Thanks to his second-inning century in Lord’s, Joe Root has broken several records. Joe Root has now become the batsman who scored the most centuries in England’s 147-year test history. Root breaks another legendary test batsman of England, Alastair Cook’s record. Cook had scored 33 hundreds for England in Tests.

Joe Root took 145 tests to achieve this feat, while Alastair Cook reached this milestone in 161 test matches. Joe Root has been in the purple patch of his cricket career since January 1, 2021.

Root scored 17 centuries from that time to September 2024. On the other hand, other members of Fab 4 scored the equal number of test hundred combined in the same period—Virat Kohli (2), Steve Smith (6), and Kane Williamson (9).
