IPL 2025 Mega Auction List: Jofra Archer Added Back to the 2025 IPL Auction List

According to a news article published in ESPNcricinfo, Jofra Archer has registered for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. The article further states that Archer has been added back to the revised final auction list after almost a weekend of the initial auction list sent to the franchisees by the IPL Governing Body.

Archer was one of the biggest names who were absent from the 2025 IPL Mega Auction players list forwarded to teams. Archer’s exclusion caused questions, given that the England quickie was on the original longlist supplied by IPL. The base price of Jofra Archer is INR 2 crore, as per his registration details for the mega auction.

As per the insights by ESPNcricinfo article on Jofra Archer’s inclusion in the 2025 IPL auction, this week, Archer and his representatives met with the ECB and the BCCI to discuss the consequences of not making the shortlist. Archer has a central contract with the ECB that runs until the end of September, giving control over his workload.

Spending April and May in the IPL would make it substantially more difficult for Archer, eliminating the likelihood of him playing for Sussex in the early rounds of the County Championship. The ECB barred Archer from joining last year’s auction to avoid him returning from injury too soon, but doing likewise this year would have prevented him from playing in the competition until at least 2027 because of the new IPL auction rules.

The new regulations for this auction cycle state that players who have previously featured in the league but did not register for a mega-auction will be unable to register for the following mini-auction. A separate regulation states that a player who gets signed at an auction and subsequently withdraws no justifiable cause will face a two-year penalty.

In 2022, Mumbai Indians paid INR 8 crore for Archer, despite the fact that he had recently undergone elbow surgery and was unable to play that season. He played five games for MI in 2023, taking two wickets, before his season was cut short by another elbow injury.

Archer has not played Test cricket since 2021, but England is hopeful that he will return next year when they face India at home and Australia away.
