Five Players that RCB Might Retain Before IPL 2025 Mega Auction

The IPL franchises still have to wait for the retention policy ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The BCCI hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the new IPL retention policy. However, BCCI and IPL franchisee officials are still working in the background to find a common path that could match the requirements of both parties. Because many reports are saying that BCCI is in the mood of not allowing more than six retentions ahead of the 2025 mega auction.

If the BCCI stays on its decision, then it will be quite tough for teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who went on an unreal run last season to make it to the playoffs, to finalize their retention list. But if RCB has to take a call, then these are the players that RCB would like to bet on in IPL 2025.

  1. Virat Kohli

Without a doubt, Virat will be RCB’s top pick to retain. He may have withdrawn from T20 internationals, but Virat still has a lot to contribute to his franchise. He was the Orange Cap Winner of IPL 2024 with 741 runs. There’s no way RCB would consider releasing him.

2. Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar is a good middle-order batsman and has been a revelation for RCB over the last few seasons. He is almost assured of keeping his spot on the RCB squad.

3. Mohammed Siraj

Siraj, perhaps the best pacer in the RCB team, is one of the franchise’s key members, along with Kohli. Despite his performance last season, the franchise is likely to continue to believe in him.

4. Will Jacks

With Glenn Maxwell’s off-color status, Will Jacks is expected to be the RCB’s overseas retention option. However, if RCB wants to keep Maxwell too, they may be unable to keep both Green and Jacks on the retention list.

5. Yash Dayal

His move to RCB from the Gujarat Titans had sparked speculation, but Dayal proved the skeptics wrong, proving to be an essential asset in the RCB’s bowling arsenal. Since the 2024 season, Dayal has impressed everyone, even the national selectors.

Big names that are likely to miss out

Cameron Green

A fast-bowling all-rounder plus a power-hitter has always been a rare commodity in RCB camp. The Aussie allrounder has given RCB that luxury; however, since he arrived in the team, Green hasn’t performed according to the expectations. This is one of the reasons why RCB may choose to release him.

Faf du Plessis

Faf is one of the most important players of RCB, but according to the retention rule, a team can just pick six players. In such a case, RCB may simply decide to keep five young players considering the future and build the rest of the squad around them through the auction. However, if BCCI allows to retain six players, then RCB might opt to keep Du Plessis for another two to three seasons.
