Afghanistan has won their third consecutive ODI series in Sharjah by registering a 5-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the third one-day. Earlier in this game, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first on the slow surface of Sharjah. Bangladesh gets a decent start as their opening pair put a 53-run stand in 8.3 overs before losing three wickets in quick succession of five runs. In the span of 17 deliveries, Bangladesh went from 53/1 to 58/3, but after that, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz took control into his hands and joined hands with veteran allrounder Mahmadullah to take Bangladesh to 217/4 from 72/4.
In the 46th over, Mehidy was dismissed by Omarzai on 66; after that, Mahmadullah took the responsibility of scoring onto his shoulders. Mahmadullah took Bangladesh to 244/8, but in this endeavor, he missed his well-deserved hundred by just two runs. Came to chase a target of 246 Afghanistan too got a decent start, with openers combinedly scoring 41 in 7.3 overs before Sadiqullah Atal (14) was bowled by Nahid Rana. But Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was rock solid on the other end, formed small partnerships with Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi to bring Afghanistan out of trouble.
At the score of 84, Afghanistan lost its third wicket, but from there, Gurbaz and Azmatullah Omarzai built a 100-run partnership to tilt the game in Afghanistan’s favor. The 100-run partnership between Gurbaaz and Omarzai was broken by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who dismissed Girbaz just after scoring his eighth century. After Gurbaz’s dismissal, Omarzai played the leading role in guiding Afghanistan to victory with Mohammad Nabi in 48.2 overs for the loss of five wickets.
