IPL 2026: Who will win the race for the Orange Cap?

The IPL is nearing the end of its 2026 season. Soon, the elimination rounds will begin and a winner will be crowned. But, before we get there, the season awards need to be awarded, including the Orange Cap, given to the highest scoring batsmen in the IPL 2026.

The race for the Orange Cap race is the most competitive it has been in years. A handful of runs separates the top five run-scorers, and the top cricket betting sites are forecasting a tight battle come the end of the season.

Here’s a look at the current frontrunners, and who’s most likely to win the Orange Cap for the 2026 IPL season, as of time of writing.

Heinrich Klaasen- Sunrisers Hyderabad

A surprise leader in the Orange Cap race. Klaasen usually bats in the middle order, around 4 or 5, and has climbed to the top of the run standings with his consistent play for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

His average of 54.89 and strike rate of 153.93 from the middle order are genuinely exceptional, and his measured approach this season has been something to behold, leading to battle displays which aren’t explosive, but consistent in their output. He remains the favourite, and is the current Orange Cap leader.

Sai Sudharsan- Gujarat Titans

The defending Orange Cap winner, and a worthy winner this year, too. As the opener for the Gujarat Titans, he’s now been among the best batsmen in the league for multiple seasons, hitting 500 runs in three consecutive years.

Another batter who builds his runs methodically, he’s a serious threat for the Orange Cap this year. With GT fighting at the top of the IPL table, and being in great form, Sudharsen’s positioned perfectly to keep racking up more runs until the end of the season.

Abhishek Sharma- Sunrisers Hyderabad

Another batter for SRH, Sharma is another genuine contender for the top spot. He is a much more bombastic batter than his teammate Klassen, capable of exploding in short bursts. If he finds himself in a real vein of form, he can be a real threat.

The fact that he shares the colours of one of his rivals for the Orange Cap is key to this fight. Sharma comes before Klassen in the SRH order, and since they share the same team, they share the same balls. Sharma staying in longer robs Klaasen of more balls and more run-scoring opportunities. The better Sharma performs, the less Klaasen can score.

KL Rahul- Delhi Capitals

Rahul’s arguably got the most well-rounded game of the Orange Cap contenders. A strike rate of 177.98 and an average close to 47, combined with the highest individual score of the season (152 not out), make him a consistent accumulator who is never far away.

Rahul could suffer from his team’s form, as the playoff chances of the Delhi Capitals are fading. Rahul will need to maintain the drive and competitiveness if he wants to keep putting runs on the board and fight for the Orange Cap.
