Former India Fielding Coach R Sridhar Joins Sri Lanka Cricket for Specialised Camp

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has now called on the services of former India fielding coach R Sridhar to lead a 10-day specialized fielding camp that aims to elevate the fielding standards in Sri Lankan cricket at various levels.

In a media release dated Tuesday, May 6, SLC revealed that Sridhar, who begins his short-term engagement on May 7, will work with a number of players, including from the national men’s and women’s teams, Emerging squads, Premier Club players, National Under-19 team and the Women’s ‘A’  team.

“The Former India fielding coach will start the program with the Sri Lanka National Men’s team first, before working with the other squads, where he will lead fielding drills, skill-specific training, and simulated match situations to replicate game conditions,” said SLC.

R Sridhar, who is a BCCI Level 3 qualified coach will bring a wealth of experience to Sri Lanka. He was the fielding coach of India between 2014 and 2021, which included working with the team in over 300 international matches. More recently he was in with the Afghanistan national team backroom staff, as an assistant coach in 2024.

His tenure with the Indian team was marked by a significant improvement in fielding performance, with India frequently ranking among the top fielding sides in world cricket during that period.

In addition to his international credentials, Sridhar has previously worked with India’s U19 team and was also part of the coaching staff of IPL franchise Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab).

During his time in Sri Lanka, Sridhar will also collaborate closely with coaches from the National, High Performance, and Club setups, sharing knowledge and helping to implement long-term improvements in fielding standards.

The camp signals Sri Lanka Cricket’s commitment to raising the bar in fielding, an area often regarded as a key differentiator in modern cricket.
