Sunrisers Hyderabad will be dealt a huge blow ahead of IPL 2025 following the announcement that all-rounder Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the tournament as he has a toe injury. Carse was signed by SRH at his base price of INR 1 crore and was nursing an injury to his left toe, which he aggravated during England’s white-ball tour of India ahead of the Champions Trophy. Unfortunately, the injury turned worse during England’s opening match of the tournament against Australia in Lahore, where Carse bowled only seven of his 10 overs.
The player will not be taking part in IPL 2025 due to the same injury that had ruled him out of the Champions Trophy. In light of this, SRH has taken swift action to replace Carse with another South African all-rounder, Wiaan Mulder. The 25-year-old was one of South Africa’s standout players in the recent Champions Trophy and finished with six wickets, jointly the highest for his side, in a key contributory role to reach the semifinal stage.
Although this will be Wiaan’s first IPL stint, the versatile South African is already no stranger to various T20 leagues, having played 128 T20 matches, scored 2,172 runs, and taken 67 wickets. He has competed in South Africa’s SA20 league, the now-defunct Mzansi Super League (MSL), and the Vitality Blast in England, building himself a solid reputation of being a dependable performer in T20 cricket. Scheduled to kick off IPL 2025 on March 22, SRH, who were the runners-up of the 2024 season, will have high hopes that Mulder can contribute the balance and firepower to help boost the side.
SRH will start off their campaign on March 23, facing Rajasthan Royals at home in what is to be expected to be an explosive start to the season 2025. With the entry of Mulder, much hope is pinned on how the squad will adjust in the absence of Carse, but the addition of Mulder is likely to strengthen their allrounder options and provide the side with not just some batting depth but also valuable bowling contributions.
