After parting ways with Faf du Plessis, RCB might make Virat Kohli captain, but the officials have not yet passed an official statement.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru were led by the South African cricketer Faf du Plessis in the last three editions of the Indian Premier League from 2022 to 2024, but he has now parted ways with the franchise ahead of the latest addition to the IPL. RCB will be playing under the leadership of a new captain in IPL 2025. It is believed by many fans and experts that Virat Kohli will take charge of the side again after having led the team from 2013 to 2021.
However, the Bengaluru-based team, which is still waiting for its first-ever IPL title and aims to bag one this time, is yet to make any official statement. On the other hand, no leadership role in the international circuit in any of the three formats is held by Virat Kohli. In fact, his retirement from T20 internationals was announced by him after the Indian team’s victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Before the conclusion of the 2021 IPL, Kohli stepped down from RCB captaincy. Many believed that the decision came as the franchise was unable to win a title under his captaincy. However, the team faced challenges even after Kohli quit.
During a recent interview with Sportstak, Rajesh Menon, RCB’s COO, was asked if Kohli will captain the franchise in the 18th edition of IPL. Menon replied, “Currently we have not decided anything. We have multiple leaders in the team. 4-5 leaders are there. We have not deliberated what we need to do. We will deliberate, and we will come to a conclusion.”
Earlier, AB de Villiers, who is a close friend of Kohli, hinted at Kohli’s coming back as the franchise’s captain in the upcoming season. This indicated many believe the right-handed batter to return to RCB’s skipper role.
