India Under-19 Women’s Team Etched History in Kuala Lumpur With Back-to-Back ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup Titles

India has secured their second consecutive ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup title, defeating South Africa by nine wickets in the final at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. The victory was built on another exceptional display of spin bowling, with India’s spinners dismantling South Africa’s batting lineup before G Trisha’s brilliant all-round performance guided the defending champions to a comprehensive win.

South Africa, opting to bat first, struggled from the very beginning. Despite a promising start from opener Jemma Botha, who hit two boundaries in the opening over, India’s spinners quickly gained control. Parunika Sisodia struck early in the second over, dismissing Simone Lourens for a duck. The pressure mounted on South Africa as Botha, the team’s top scorer in the tournament, was dismissed in the fourth over by a brilliant catch from India’s wicketkeeper G Kamalini off Shabnam Shakil’s delivery.

South Africa’s woes continued as India’s spinners – Aayushi Shukla, Trisha, and Sisodia – tightened their grip. Shukla’s quick strikes in the middle overs reduced South Africa to 29 for 3 at the end of the powerplay. Trisha played a key role in dismissing captain Kayla Reyneke for 7 and took another wicket to further dent South Africa’s chances.

With the run rate plummeting, Mieke van Voorst (23) briefly threatened to rescue the innings with a few boundaries, but Trisha’s double strike in the 18th over removed both van Voorst and Seshnie Naidu, ensuring that South Africa never gained any momentum. The final collapse came when Vaishnavi Sharma and Shukla took two wickets each in the final overs, leaving South Africa all out for 82.

In response, India’s chase was clinical. Trisha took charge from the first ball, smashing three fours in the opening over. She continued to dominate, particularly against South Africa’s leg-spinner Naidu, hitting three more boundaries in the fourth over. Kamalini’s dismissal did not slow India’s progress as Sanika Chalke joined Trisha to continue the onslaught. Trisha was dropped on 38 in the 10th over, but the outcome was inevitable, with India needing only 16 runs to win.

Chalke sealed the victory in the 12th over with a boundary, and India comfortably completed the chase with 84 for 1. Trisha finished unbeaten on 44, taking her tally to 309 runs for the tournament, making her the highest run-scorer and earning her the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament honors.

India’s dominant performance, spearheaded by their spinners and Trisha’s all-round brilliance, saw them retain their title and prove their supremacy in the world of youth cricket. South Africa, despite their valiant efforts, was left heartbroken after falling short in a one-sided final.
