Sitanshu Kotak Reported To Be India’s New Batting Coach Ahead Of England T20Is

Kotak is expected to join the Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming T20I Series Against England on January 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The BCCI has decided to add former Saurashtra cricketer Sitanshu Kotak as the batting coach of the Indian team for the upcoming India vs England ODI series at home. After the poor performance of Indian batters in a 0-3 Test defeat to New Zealand at home and a 1-3 series loss in Australia, the BCCI felt the need for a batting coach for the team. BCCI brought Kotak on the board after a review meeting on Saturday to solve the problems in the batting department.

Kotak, 52, retired in 2013 following a first-class career spanning more than 20 years. Since 2019, he has been the batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Kotak also served as the head coach of India A tours and served as assistant coach to VVS Laxman when the latter supervised India’s white-ball bilateral engagements in the last few years.

Kotak, who retired in 2013 after a first-class career spanning more than 20 years, has been the batting coach at the National Cricket Academy since 2019. Kotak also was the head coach of several India A tours and served as assistant coach under VVS Laxman during India’s white-ball bilateral engagements as head coach in the last few years.

The Indian team is set to play five T20Is and three ODIs at home ground, the first would be a T20I game at Eden Gardens on January 22, before which the team will report at Kolkata on January 18 for a three-day camp.

A source in the BCCI said, “Kotak will be joining the Indian team as a batting coach. The Indian team will be having a three-day camp in Kolkata and players will be reporting on January 18.”

Kotak will be added to the team as the fifth assistant on the coaching staff, led by Gautam Gambhir, who took charge as the head coach of all formats in August last year. Abhishek Nayar, former India and Mumbai all-rounder is serving as the assistant coach, along with former South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel (bowling coach), and former Netherlands and Essex captain Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches. Whereas T Dilip, the fielding coach during Rahul Dravid’s tenure, was retained.
