BCCI Set New Guidelines For Families’ Presence During Team India’s Tours

Players’ wives and families can stay for a maximum of two weeks during a 45-day-long overseas tour.

Following a surprising clean sweep in the home Test series against New Zealand and a 1-3 loss in the away series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has established new guidelines for Indian players

According to the latest report, during a review meeting in Mumbai on Saturday between BCCI officials, captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, it has been decided to reintroduce the pre-Covid rule.

As per this rule, on tours of 45 days or more, players’ wives and children can be with them for only 14 days and not at all during the first two weeks of the tour. While for shorter tours, they can live for just a week. Also, the family will not be able to travel with the players for the entire team, rather the players have to travel in the team bus to and from practice and matches.

Currently, the BCCI covers the accommodation costs for families during tours, but they do not fund travel expenses. This policy will remain unchanged as long as the duration and timing of the stay comply with the established protocols.

Sports associations have long been in dilemma about whether families should be present during the tours, in certain cases, families’ presence proved in favour of the team, but various times it is the opposite. This decision is made considering the best of the players and the Indian Cricket team.
