Yashasvi Jaiswal Biography

Early Life and Background

Yashasvi Jaiswal was born on December 28, 2001, in Suriyawan, Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was the youngest of four children born to Bhupendra Jaiswal, a small hardware store owner, and Kanchan Jaiswal, a housewife. Growing up in a modest family, Yashasvi’s early life was marked by struggle and determination. At the age of ten, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his cricketing dreams, initially staying in a dairy shop in exchange for work. However, his rigorous training schedule led to him being evicted, and he was forced to live in a tent with groundsmen at Azad Maidan. To make ends meet, he sold panipuri, showcasing his resilience and dedication to the sport. His potential was soon spotted by Jwala Singh, who ran a cricket academy, and he provided Yashasvi with a place to stay and became his legal guardian.

Youth Career

Jaiswal’s cricketing journey began with remarkable feats in youth cricket. In 2015, he achieved an extraordinary all-round record in school cricket, scoring 319* and taking 13/99 in a Giles Shield match. This performance catapulted him into the spotlight, leading to his selection for Mumbai’s under-16 team. His breakthrough on the international stage came in 2018 when he scored 318 runs in the Under-19 Asia Cup, earning the Player of the Tournament award. Jaiswal also stood out with his performances in the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he was the highest run-scorer and named Player of the Tournament. His stellar performances included a crucial century in the semifinal against Pakistan.

Senior Career

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, and he soon established himself as one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket. In 2019, he made headlines in List A cricket by scoring 203 runs off 154 balls in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match, becoming the youngest double centurion in the history of the competition. He continued to dominate domestic cricket, finishing as one of the top run-scorers in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In 2020, Jaiswal was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, though he did not feature in the team initially. However, his performances in subsequent seasons made him a key player for RR. In the 2023 IPL season, he emerged as the team’s leading run-scorer, with 625 runs in 14 matches, including a record-breaking 124 against Mumbai Indians. His explosive batting style, which included the fastest Indian Premier League half-century in just 13 balls, earned him recognition as one of the most promising talents in the T20 format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal International Career

Jaiswal made his international debut for India in 2023, playing his first Test match against the West Indies. In a remarkable debut, he scored 171 runs in his first innings and was named Player of the Match. He followed this up with a T20I debut in August 2023, where he played a crucial role in an opening partnership of 165 runs with Shubman Gill. Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 84* off 51 balls in his maiden T20I half-century.

In 2024, he further cemented his status as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket. During India’s Test series against England, Jaiswal made history by scoring back-to-back double centuries, becoming only the third Indian to achieve this feat after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli. His double century in the second Test included a record-breaking 12 sixes, equaling the world record for most sixes in a Test innings. He went on to set another record, becoming the first player in Test history to hit 20 sixes in a series. Jaiswal also became the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score 500 runs in a Test series at the age of 22.

His stunning performances in Test cricket earned him a nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award in February 2024. Additionally, he was named in India’s squad for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, though he did not feature in any of the matches during the tournament.

Franchise Career

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s IPL journey with Rajasthan Royals began in 2020, but his breakthrough season came in 2023. He became the franchise’s leading run-scorer, with 625 runs in 14 matches, including a memorable century. In the 2024 season, Jaiswal continued his impressive form, scoring an unbeaten 104 against Mumbai Indians and helping Rajasthan reach the playoffs.
