Jay Shah Began his ICC Chair Reign

Jay Shah began his term as ICC chair on December 1. He took over the responsibilities from Greg Barclay this weekend. Shah was chosen unopposed to become the youngest chair of ICC at the age of 36. Prior to becoming the new ICC chair, he served as the BCCI secretary, president of the Asian Cricket Council, and chairman of the International Cricket Council‘s (ICC) finance and commercial affairs committee.

After taking his new role in ICC, Jay Shah said, “I am honoured to take on the role of ICC chair and grateful for the support and trust of the ICC directors and member boards. This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide.”

“We are at a critical juncture with the coexistence of multiple formats and the need to accelerate the growth of the women’s Cricket.. Cricket holds immense potential globally, and I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and member countries to seize opportunities and take the sport to new heights.”

Shah may become the chair of ICC in a hassle-free manner, but it is for sure his tenure will not go so smoothly, as he has to make a critical decision on the Champions Trophy (CT) 2025 in the few upcoming days.

The ICC is indulging in the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy fiasco regarding the hosting venue for the tournament. The decision on the Champions Trophy 2025 could be the defining moment for Jay Shah’s ICC Chair term because the future of the India-Pakistan match in ICC events depends on it.
