Dates Out for WPL 2025 Mini Auction; to be Held on December 15 in Bengaluru

After a grand event in Jeddah, the BCCI has announced the dates of the (Women’s Premier League) WPL 2025 mini-auction. The WPL 2025 mini-auction is slated to take place on December 15 in Bengaluru. In the 2025 mini-auction, each of the five franchises will get a total budget of INR 15 crore, up from INR 13.5 crore last year, to assemble their squad.

The 2025 WPL will be the third edition of the women’s annual domestic league in India, which will take place for three weeks in February-March 2025. After that, the tournament will move into a new window in January-February 2026; according to the revised Women’s Future Tours Programme for the 2025-29 cycle. The first season of the women’s premier league was held in 2023.

English captain Heather Knight, White Fern’s fast bowler Lea Tahuhu, and West Indies’ ace all-rounder Deandra Dottin will be among the top international players available for bidding at the mini auction. Notable Indian stars who attract huge bids include allrounder Sneh Rana, legspinner Poonam Yadav, and batter Veda Krishnamurthy.

Runners-up of the first two WPL seasons, Delhi Capitals, who will be led by Meg Lanning, come to the auction with the smallest purse of INR 2.5 crores. While Gujarat Giants, who finished last in the first two editions, will have the most cash, INR 4.4 crore, to spend on rebuilding their squad after letting go of up to seven players.

The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who include India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and New Zealand’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Sophie Devine, have also released seven players. Among them is Knight, who missed the previous season owing to international commitments. RCB will enter into the auction with a purse of INR 3.25 crore.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge of England was the sole player traded during the pre-season trade window, which closed in early November, with RCB acquiring him via an all-cash trade with UP Warriorz. Wyatt-Hodge did not play a single game for UP Warriorz in 2024.
