IPL Auction 2025: Rajasthan Royals Bought Vaibhav Suryavanshi for 1.10 crore to Make him the Youngest Player in IPL History

On Monday evening in Jeddah, Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in the history books by becoming the youngest player to ever feature in the IPL at the age of 13. Rajasthan Royals bought Vaibhav for 1.10 crore at the IPL 2025 Auction and made him the youngest player ever to earn an IPL contract. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a left-handed top-order batsman who plays for Bihar in the domestic circuit.

Suryavanshi, who is 13 years and 243 days old on the day he gets his first IPL contract, has already played for India Under-19 and made a century opening the batting against Australia Under-19 in a four-day game in Chennai over two months ago. So it makes sense to buy such a talented player for 1.10 crore despite the base price being just 30 lacs.

The bid for Suryavanshi began at his base price of 30 lacs, which eventually went to 1.10 crore because of RR and DC, who almost brawled on the bidding tables to get the youngster from Bihar.

“He’s been to our high-performance center in Nagpur; he had trials there and really impressed our coaching set-up there. He’s an incredible talent, and of course, you got to have the confidence so he can step up to the IPL level. So lots of work will go in in the coming months to continue to develop him, but he is a hell of a talent, and we’re really excited to have him as part of the franchise.” Rajasthan Royals CEO Jake Lush McCrum said after the auction ended.

Suryavanshi, who is from Samastipur, has played five Ranji Trophy games since his first-class debut against Mumbai earlier this year and is presently playing T20s for Bihar in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The highlight of his career so far has been his century against Australia U-19, which came off just 58 balls before he was dismissed for 104. With this knock, Suryavanshi became the youngest player to make century in age-group cricket, at the age of 13 years and 187 days, shattering the previous record of 14 years and 241 days held by Bangladesh’s current captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto.
