Sanath Jayasuriya Becomes full-time coach of Sri Lanka after Recent Successes as interim coach

Sanath Jayasuriya has been rewarded for his brilliant work with the Sri Lankan team as interim coach, as he now becomes the full-time coach of Sri Lanka till March 2026. In a media release, Cricket Sri Lanka announced that former Sri Lankan captain Jayasuriya will continue as head of the Sri Lankan cricket team until the end of March 2026.

Jayasuriya was appointed interim coach of the Sri Lankan team after Chris Silverwood departed from the role of head coach. Jayasuriya gets an extension in his role due to some recent success across all formats against big names like India, England, and New Zealand.

Sri Lanka’s test victory over England in a decade at England’s home, an ODI series win over India in 27 years, and a test series win over New Zealand in 15 years are the highlights of Jayasuriya’s tenure with Sri Lanka as their head coach.

Up next bis tasks for Jayasuriya as head coach of Sri Lanka are next year’s ICC Champions Trophy event in Pakistan and, if Sri Lanka qualifies, the World Test Championship final at Lord’s in June.

Sri Lanka’s recent Test series victory against New Zealand secured third position in the current World Test Championship standings, with previous year’s finalists India and Australia the only two sides ahead of the island nation.
