ICC Banned Sri Lankan Spinner Praveen Jayawickrama for a Year

Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been banned by the ICC (International Cricket Council) from all cricket for a year, with six months suspended after he acknowledged breaking the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Jayawickrama acknowledged violating the following provisions of the Code:

Article 2.4.7—Obstructing or delaying any investigation conducted by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with, or destroying any documentation or other information relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code.

As punishment, Jayawickrama has agreed to a sentence of one year of ineligibility, of which the final six months are suspended, as a result of his acknowledgment of violating the ICC’s code. The charges were made regarding international cricket and the Lanka Premier League. The ICC, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket, followed Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Code.
