Dwayne Bravo Becomes New Mentor of KKR

Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who has recently taken retirement from all formats of cricket, becomes the new mentor of KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders). He will serve as a consultant for the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beginning in 2025.

Bravo recently met with KKR CEO Venky Mysore during the CPL before agreeing to a long-term contract. Apart from KKR, he will be in charge of all franchises under the Knight Riders label in T20 leagues across the globe—Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC), and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20).

Bravo succeeds Gautam Gambhir in KKR’s mentor role, who took over as India’s head coach shortly after guiding KKR to their third IPL triumph in 2024. Bravo retired from all forms of cricket the day before the announcement. Aside from Gambhir, KKR lost two assistant coaches, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, who were both appointed to India’s support staff.

The mentorship with KKR is Bravo’s second team management post in the IPL. Before this, he joined CSK as a bowling coach in 2023. Bravo was immediately successful in his first team management role, as CSK won the title in 2023, adding another to his three IPL trophies. Bravo is considered one of the best death bowlers in T20 cricket, having taken the third most wickets in IPL history and being the first player to win two purple caps in the league.

Bravo, who has more than 500 T20 wickets under his belt, is regarded by players and colleagues as one of the top tacticians as a bowler. Bravo retired from international cricket following the 2021 T20 World Cup, and while he continued to play in T20 competitions (for Mumbai Emirates in ILT20, Texas Super Kings in MLC, and TKR in CPL), he gradually transitioned into coaching. Bravo served as a consultant coach for Afghanistan during the 2024 T20 World Cup, helping the side reach the semi-finals for the first time in its history.
