The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. The squad consists of 15 players and twenty-two-year-old Fatima Sana will be leading this squad.
Fatima Sana will take the place of Nida Dar, who is also a member of the team selected for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The women’s national selection committee made the choice unanimously to replace Dar with Sana in the skipper’s role.
Fatima is a bowling all-rounder who had 31 T20I wickets at an average of 30.09. She has also scored 215 runs in the 20-format, with a strike rate of little over 100. She has led both the domestic and Pakistan Emerging sides in the past. She also led the Pakistani women’s team to a historic victory over New Zealand in December 2023 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch during an ODI.
Apart from skipper Sana and former captain Dar, Aliya Riaz is another all-rounder’s option in this Pakistan team. Diana Baig, Sidra Amin, and Sadaf Shamas will take responsibility for providing early breakthroughs in the powerplay as a fast-bowling unit. Muneeba Ali and Najiha Alvi will be wicketkeeping options; however, Najiha Alvi is included in the team as a traveling reserve.
The Women in Green’s roster from the just-finished Women’s Asia Cup has only seen one change. Resurfacing is Sadaf Shamas, who competed in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.
Pakistan is grouped with India, Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka in Group A and will embark on its T20 World Cup journey against Sri Lanka on 3 October.
