Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama is accused of ICC corruption charges

Praveen Jayawickrama, a left-arm spinner from Sri Lanka, is facing charges from the ICC for allegedly breaking three anti-corruption code counts, which include using fraudulent tactics during international matches and the Lanka Premier League

Jayawickrama, 25, was charged with the following offenses under sections 2.4.4 and 2.4.7 of the code, according to an ICC statement. Failing to promptly notify the Anti-Corruption Unit of the details of an approach he received to fix future international matches. Failing to submit to the Anti-Corruption Unit, without undue delay, details of an approach he got in which he was urged to approach another player on the corrupter’s behalf to carry out rigging in the 2021 Lanka Premier League. Obstructing the inquiry by deleting correspondence in which attempts and offers to participate in corrupt behavior were made.

Jayawickrama will have 14 days starting on August 6 to answer the accusations. Under the terms of the anti-corruption code, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have come to an arrangement wherein the ICC will prosecute both the LPL case and the accusations about international matches.
