Uncertainty Over Bangladesh’s Tour To Pakistan, PCB Offers To Fly Out Players

The present civil instability in the country following the forced resignation and flight of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina casts uncertainty on the Bangladesh senior men’s team’s two-match test series against Pakistan, which is scheduled to begin in Rawalpindi on August 21. The senior team of Bangladesh is expected to play two Test matches at Rawalpindi (August 21–25) and Karachi (August 30-September 3).

However, given the current circumstances, it may be challenging for the national team to travel to Pakistan. The shadow tour of the Bangladesh A squad has also been called into question. Mominul Haque, the former Test captain of Bangladesh, was scheduled to represent Bangladesh A against Pakistan Shaheens (A) in that series.

According to a PCB source familiar with the situation, the PCB has even offered the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to fly their Test team to Rawalpindi as soon as possible to keep the series alive.

“The PCB has even offered to host their players for the extra days and provide them with all training facilities in Rawalpindi ahead of the Test matches, but they have not responded as yet,” according to the source.

The series between the senior men’s teams of both nations is seriously doubtful after the BCB postponed the arrival of their A side to Pakistan by 48 hours on Monday.

The situation has been made worse by reports that mobs have destroyed some senior players’ residences. The Bangladesh A team was scheduled to be in Pakistan tomorrow, while the Test squad was scheduled to land in Pakistan on August 17. The Bangladesh A team’s first four-day match is set to start on August 11.

According to the PCB source, the board was making every effort to stay in contact with the BCB, but given the circumstances, communication was exceedingly challenging. “With the BCB president (Najmul Hosain Papon) also leaving the country, apparently the board is not functioning normally,” stated the minister. Since 2019-20, the Bangladesh cricket team has not traveled to Pakistan.
